FAQ

Visa for Nepali citizens — frequently asked questions

Everything Nepali travellers ask before starting a visa application — fees, timelines, dummy tickets, rejections and more. For embassy details, open the destination guide above.

What is a visa and do I need one?

A visa is official permission stamped or attached to your passport allowing you to enter, transit, or stay in another country. Whether you need one depends on your passport, the destination, and your travel purpose. Use the Yatra For Fun visa checker or the destination pages to confirm requirements for your specific trip.

How long does visa processing take?

It varies by destination and visa type — from a few days for some online visas to several weeks for sticker visas that need a visa-centre appointment. Each destination page shows the processing time recorded in our dataset, with its source and review date. Apply well ahead of travel, as appointment slots in Kathmandu can fill up.

Can Yatra help me apply for a visa?

Yes. On Yatra For Fun you can check the requirements for 60+ destinations, see the document checklist for your visa type, start an application online and follow its status, and order reservation documents (flight itinerary, hotel reservation, tour itinerary) for your file. Contact our Kathmandu team for what further help is available for your destination and its fee.

What is a dummy ticket and when do I need one?

A dummy ticket is a flight itinerary document used as proof of onward travel in a visa file, so you don't have to buy a ticket before the visa is decided. Yatra For Fun's dummy flight ticket is a 2-page flight itinerary PDF for visa applications, built from a Trip.com flight link — NPR 999 (USD 10), paid by Nabil Bank QR. The reference number is a Yatra For Fun document number, not an airline PNR, so it will not appear on an airline's Manage Booking page. Embassy requirements differ: many accept an itinerary document, some ask for a held airline reservation. Check your embassy's checklist before you apply.

What documents do I usually need?

The core stack is: passport valid 6+ months beyond return date with two blank pages, passport photos meeting embassy spec, completed visa form, flight + hotel proof, financial proof (3–6 months bank statements), and a letter from your employer or school. The visa-checker page lists exactly what your destination embassy requires.

How much does a visa cost?

It depends on the destination and visa type — for example, the US B1/B2 visa fee in our dataset is USD 185 and the UK Standard Visitor visa is GBP 135. Each destination page lists the fees recorded in our dataset with their sources and review date; fees change, so confirm on the official site before paying. Contact us for the fee for Yatra For Fun's help with an application.

What happens if my visa is rejected?

Embassies rarely refund visa fees on rejection. Read the refusal letter — it states the reason — and fix that gap before re-applying (a new application means a new embassy fee). Many refusals come down to documents such as bank statements, employer letters or photos that don't meet the embassy's specification.

Can I travel on a visa-on-arrival or e-visa instead?

Some destinations offer Nepali passport holders a visa on arrival or an online visa, but the list changes and conditions apply. Each destination page shows which visa types our dataset records for that country and how to apply. Nepali citizens do not need a visa to visit India.

How long can I stay on a tourist visa?

It depends on the visa: short-stay visas commonly allow 30 to 90 days (a Schengen visa allows up to 90 days in any 180-day period). Each destination page shows the stay and validity recorded in our dataset. Always check the duration printed on your visa — overstaying can lead to fines and future entry bans.

Do children need their own visa?

Yes. Every traveler — adults, children, and infants — needs an individual visa unless their home country has a special exemption. Children's applications usually require both parents' notarized consent and a copy of the birth certificate.

Can I work on a tourist visa?

No. Tourist visas strictly prohibit paid work. Volunteering, business meetings, and short conferences are usually fine but check the destination's specific rules. For paid work or long stays, apply for the appropriate work or business visa.

What's the difference between single-entry and multi-entry?

Single-entry visa allows one entry; if you leave, the visa is consumed and you'd need a new one to re-enter. Multi-entry allows unlimited entries within the visa validity, ideal for back-to-back trips or side excursions (e.g. a Schengen multi-entry visa allows up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area).

Will my old rejected visa hurt my future applications?

It can — embassies share rejection data within their consular network. Always disclose past rejections truthfully on new applications, and address the earlier refusal reason in your new file.

Do I need biometrics or an in-person interview?

Many visas, including Schengen, UK and US visas, need fingerprints collected at a visa centre or embassy. US visitor visas also usually need an in-person interview at the US Embassy in Kathmandu. The destination page describes the application steps recorded in our dataset.

Can Yatra help with visa renewal or extension?

A Schengen, UK or US visa is not extended from Nepal — you make a fresh application, and Yatra For Fun can help you prepare it. Extensions while you are inside the destination country are handled by that country's immigration authority; rules and fees vary.

Guide

Visa applications for Nepali citizens — what to know in 2026

Many popular destinations require Nepali passport holders to get a visa before travel, including the Schengen area, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia and the UAE. Rules, fees and processing times differ by country and change over time, so each destination page on Yatra For Fun lists the visa types in our dataset, the embassy or visa centre that handles applications from Nepal, the sources the record was built from and the date it was last reviewed. Always confirm with the official source before you apply.

When should you apply?

Processing takes anything from a few days to several weeks depending on the destination and visa type, and appointment slots at embassies and visa centres in Kathmandu can fill up. Check the processing time on the destination page and start early — our dataset does not track live appointment queues.

What does Yatra For Fun charge?

The eligibility checker and destination pages are free. Embassy and visa-centre fees are paid to them, as listed on each destination page. A dummy flight ticket for your file is NPR 999: The reference number is a Yatra For Fun document number, not an airline PNR, so it will not appear on an airline's Manage Booking page. Embassy requirements differ: many accept an itinerary document, some ask for a held airline reservation. Check your embassy's checklist before you apply. For help with a full application, contact our Kathmandu team for the fee for your destination.

What if my visa is refused?

Embassies rarely refund the application fee when a visa is refused. The refusal letter states the reason — fix that gap (for example bank statements, an employer letter or a photo that does not meet the embassy's specification) before you apply again, and declare the earlier refusal on your new application.
