Important notes

  • Every Nepali-language document MUST be accompanied by a notary-certified English translation — embassies will reject untranslated originals. Use a Nepal Bar Council–registered translator and have each translation notarised by a Notary Public.
  • Income proof for Danish visas: ANY ONE of the four Nepal-side income bundles is sufficient (Business OR Salary OR Pension OR Rental) — pick the bundle matching your active income source.
  • Denmark joined the Schengen Area on 25 March 2001. Short-stay Schengen visas (Type C) issued by Denmark are valid across all 29 Schengen states; Schengen visas issued by other members are valid for entry to Denmark under the same conditions.
  • Holders of a valid multiple-entry Schengen Type C visa, an LTV with multi-entry, a Schengen Type D long-stay visa, or a Schengen residence permit DO NOT need a separate Danish visa for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
  • GOOD NEWS for Nepal: VFS Denmark VAC IS in Kathmandu (Chhaya Devi Complex, Thamel). Unlike Cyprus / Czech / Croatia, Nepali applicants do NOT need to travel to India to apply for a Danish visa. The VAC accepts both Schengen Type C (short-stay) and Type D (residence permits) intake.
  • Biometrics (fingerprints + photo) are mandatory for first-time Schengen Type C applicants and for ALL Type D applicants regardless of prior captures. Fingerprints valid 5 years across Schengen for Type C. Children under 6 provide photograph only (no fingerprints). Remove henna from fingertips before biometric capture — henna obstructs the scan.
  • Schengen-approved travel medical insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 cover (incl. emergency repatriation + urgent hospitalisation) is mandatory for Type C and must be valid throughout the Schengen Area for the entire stay. For Type D, comprehensive Danish health insurance (typically Sygesikringen "yellow card") is provided automatically after CPR registration — applicants only need bridging private insurance for the gap between arrival and CPR issuance.
  • All non-English / non-Danish documents must be translated into English (Danish translation NOT required) by a Nepal MoFA-recognised translator and apostilled (Nepal joined the Hague Apostille Convention on 14 March 2024 — official certificates issued after that date can be apostilled by Nepal MoFA).
  • Type D long-stay applications are filed online at nyidanmark.dk (mandatory) BEFORE biometric submission at VFS Kathmandu. The system generates a unique case order ID — bring the printed order confirmation + payment receipt to the VAC appointment.
  • Greenland and Faroe Islands are constituent countries of the Kingdom of Denmark but are NOT part of the EU or Schengen. Separate visas are required for travel to Greenland or the Faroe Islands — apply via the same VFS Kathmandu intake, but on a separate Greenland / Faroe-specific application form.
  • Denmark has notable Type D categories aimed at attracting talent: (1) Positive List for Highly Educated (≥ Bachelor's + job offer in shortage occupation), (2) Pay Limit Scheme (annual gross salary ≥ DKK 514,000 in 2026), (3) Fast-Track Scheme (employer-certified for streamlined hiring), (4) Start-up Denmark (innovative-business plan approved by an expert panel), (5) Researcher Scheme (no job-quota cap), (6) Special-Purpose categories (artists, religious workers, athletes, performing artists).
  • Common refusal patterns for Nepal: weak ties to Nepal (no property / business / family obligation), unexplained funds, vague itinerary, undisclosed prior Schengen / UK / US refusals, applicants under 30 without dependants. SIRI also scrutinises Nepali educational documents heavily — Tribhuvan University verification recommended for Type D Studies / Pay Limit applications.
  • Denmark uses DKK (Danish Krone) NOT euro despite EU membership — Denmark holds an opt-out from the euro under the Maastricht Treaty.
