Thailand Privilege Entry Visa for Indians: Membership Rule Explained
TL;DR

The Privilege Entry Visa (PE) is the Thai visa for Thailand Elite members, so membership comes before any application. It is the only Thai visa type not filed on thaievisa.go.th: Indian members contact the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi or a Consulate-General. Non-members who want long stays should compare the LTR, DTV and O-A visas.

Key takeaways

  • The Privilege Entry Visa is the Thai visa for Thailand Elite members; non-members cannot use it.
  • Since 1 January 2025 every Thai visa in India is applied for at thaievisa.go.th, except the Privilege Entry Visa.
  • Indian Elite members contact the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulates-General in Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata.
  • No Privilege Entry fee appears in the Embassy fees we checked; ask the mission for the current fee and checklist.
  • Indian ordinary passport holders can visit visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism and short business from 15 September 2026.
According to the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, Thailand's Privilege Entry Visa (PE) is only for Thailand Elite members. It is the one Thai visa type not available through the e-Visa portal thaievisa.go.th, so Indian members must contact the Royal Thai Embassy or a Consulate-General directly to apply.

The PE is often confused with long-stay visas anyone can apply for. It is not one of them. This guide sets out what the Thai missions in India publish about it, what they do not, and which visas suit Indians who are not members, as published on the official sources, checked on 2026-10-15. For every other Thai visa, see our Thailand visa guide for Indians.

Who can get the Privilege Entry Visa?

The membership rule is the whole eligibility test. The Embassy's e-Visa FAQ of September 2026 describes the PE as the visa for Thailand Elite members. If you do not hold that membership, the PE is not open to you, whatever your income or travel history.

The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi lists the PE among its "other" visa types, next to the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa and the SMART Visa. VFS Global's page for the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Mumbai also lists an "Elite Visa" among its non-immigrant categories.

The Thai Embassy and Consulate pages we checked do not explain how membership is obtained or what it costs. Treat the membership and the visa as two separate steps: membership first, visa second.

Why is the PE not on the Thai e-Visa portal?

Since 1 January 2025, all Thai visa applicants in India apply online at thaievisa.go.th. The Embassy's FAQ states that the e-Visa covers every visa type except the Privilege Entry Visa for Thailand Elite members. For the PE, applicants contact the Embassy or the Consulates-General instead.

That exception matters in practice. The standard e-Visa process, including the Embassy's offline fee payment to its DBS Bank account and the processing time of approximately 14 working days from receipt of the fee, is described for e-Visa applications. The official pages do not say whether the same steps apply to a PE application, so confirm them with the mission that handles your state.

What do the official pages not tell you about the PE?

Several details Indian members will want are not published on the Embassy, Consulate or VFS pages we checked. We do not fill these gaps with estimates.

  • The fee. No Privilege Entry fee appears in the Embassy fees we checked, which cover tourist, transit, non-immigrant, DTV, LTR and SMART Visa applications from 27 April 2026.
  • The document list. The checklists linked from the Embassy's visa page cover B, ED, O, O-A and M visas, not the PE. The Embassy's general list for Thai visas starts with a passport valid for not less than 6 months with two blank pages, but confirm what the PE file needs.
  • The processing time. No PE timeline is published.
  • Length of stay and validity. Not stated on the pages checked.

When you contact the mission, ask for the fee in INR and how to pay it, the document checklist, whether you apply in person and how long a decision takes. Get the answers in writing where possible.

Do you need a long-stay visa at all?

For many Indian travellers, no. From 15 September 2026, until further announcement, Indian ordinary passport holders may enter Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism and short-term business. Longer stays need a visa.

Visa on Arrival is no longer an option for Indians. Under the scheme effective 15 September 2026 it covers only Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia. Every passenger, including visa-free travellers, must complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card, which foreigners submit 3 days in advance of their arrival date.

All of these are filed on thaievisa.go.th, where the Embassy accepts no cash and asks for payment by bank transfer or UPI to its DBS Bank account.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for the Thailand Privilege Entry Visa through VFS?

The Royal Thai Embassy says PE applicants contact the Embassy or the Consulates-General. VFS Global's Mumbai page lists an "Elite Visa" category, but VFS Thailand pages could not be re-read on 2026-10-15, so confirm the route with the Consulate-General in Mumbai first.

How much does the Privilege Entry Visa cost in rupees?

No Privilege Entry fee appears in the Royal Thai Embassy fees we checked, effective 27 April 2026. Ask the Embassy or your Consulate-General for the current INR amount and payment method before you apply.

Is a Thai visa needed for a two-week holiday?

No. Indian ordinary passport holders can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism and short-term business from 15 September 2026, until further announcement. You only need to submit the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card 3 days before arrival.

How long does a normal Thai e-Visa take from India?

The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi states approximately 14 working days from the date it receives the visa fee payment, for e-Visa applications. The PE is handled outside the e-Visa system, so its timeline is not covered by that figure.
