Work visas range from AUD 470 (MATES) to AUD 4,015 (Skills in Demand), and the main skilled migration visas cost AUD 6,135 to AUD 6,235. Key takeaways

  • Visitor visa (subclass 600): AUD 250 when you apply outside Australia, AUD 630 for the Tourist stream applied for in Australia.
  • Student visa (subclass 500): AUD 2,500 for the main applicant; AUD 2,050 for standalone ELICOS or Non-Award courses.
  • Each visitor, including a child, applies and pays separately; family members cannot be added to one Visitor visa.
  • Skilled visas 189, 190, 491, 186 and 858 cost AUD 6,135 to AUD 6,235 for the main applicant.
  • Home Affairs publishes no INR amounts; your card's exchange rate decides the rupee cost.
According to Australia's Department of Home Affairs, from 1 July 2026 an Indian applying from outside Australia pays AUD 250 for a Visitor visa (subclass 600), AUD 2,500 for a Student visa (subclass 500), AUD 4,015 for a Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa and AUD 6,135 to AUD 6,235 for the main skilled migration visas, all in AUD.

The figures below are base application charges, as published on the official sources, checked on 15 October 2026. Home Affairs publishes no rupee amount, so what leaves your bank account depends on your card's exchange rate on the day you pay in ImmiAccount. Your application is not processed until the charge is paid. For the full application process, see our Australia visa hub for Indian passport holders.

What does each Australian visa cost in 2026?

This table lists every charge in the Home Affairs price list that is relevant to Indian applicants, with the extra amounts for family members where a visa allows them.

Two of these figures changed on 1 July 2026. The live figures sit on the Home Affairs current visa pricing table.

How much does an Australian tourist visa cost for an Indian family?

The Visitor visa does not allow family members to be included. Each person, children included, lodges a separate application and pays AUD 250. A family of four from Pune or Kochi therefore files four applications at AUD 250 each.

The Business Visitor and Sponsored Family streams cost the same AUD 250. Under the Sponsored Family stream, the sponsor in Australia may also be asked to pay a security bond; Home Affairs sets that case by case.

The AUD 630 rate applies only to the Tourist stream applied for while you are in Australia. Visitor visas cannot be extended, so a parent already in Australia who wants to stay longer must apply for a new visa. That is not possible if condition 8503 (No Further Stay) is on the current visa, unless it is waived.

What do students and graduates pay on top of the base charge?

The Student visa costs AUD 2,500 for the main applicant. Family members cost AUD 1,530 each if 18 or over and AUD 500 if under 18, but since 2 October 2026 most student applicants can no longer include family members. Exemptions include PhD students, DFAT or Defence-sponsored students and fully funded foreign-government scholarship holders.

An AUD 700 subsequent temporary application charge may apply if a Student visa is lodged in Australia. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is bought separately from an approved insurer, and Home Affairs publishes no OSHC price.

After graduation, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), Post-Higher Education Work stream, costs AUD 5,750 and is exempt from the subsequent temporary application charge.

Which work visa charges are yours, and which does the employer pay?

  • Skills in Demand (482): you pay the AUD 4,015 visa applicant charge, and each adult family member is also AUD 4,015. Your employer separately pays a nomination fee and the Skilling Australians Fund levy. Those two amounts are not in our dataset, so ask your employer or check the Home Affairs pricing table.
  • MATES (403): an India-only scheme. You pay a AUD 25 ballot registration fee with a valid Indian passport and PAN card, and AUD 470 for the visa if you are selected. Up to 3,000 primary places are allocated by ballot each program year.
  • Work and Holiday (462): a AUD 25 ballot registration fee, not refunded if you are not selected, then AUD 840 for the first visa. India's annual cap is 1,000 first visas. A PAN card is required; Aadhaar is not accepted.

What do permanent visas and citizenship cost?

The Skilled Independent visa (189) is AUD 6,135. The Skilled Nominated (190), Skilled Work Regional (491) and Employer Nomination Scheme Direct Entry (186) visas are AUD 6,140 each. The National Innovation visa (858) is AUD 6,235. For 189, 190, 491 and 186, an adult family member adds AUD 3,070.

Once you hold permanent residence and meet the residence requirement, citizenship by conferral costs AUD 285 for applicants aged 18 to 59 who sit the test. It is AUD 180 for 16- and 17-year-olds and AUD 40 for some concession card holders.

Which costs sit outside the visa charge?

  • Health checks, police certificates and biometrics: Home Affairs lists these as other possible costs. The Department tells you if you must give biometrics; India is not on the Australian Biometrics Collection Centre list (March 2026).
  • No visa centre fee in India: you lodge online in ImmiAccount. The Australian High Commission lists visa application centres only for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.
  • Insurance: not compulsory for a Visitor visa, but Home Affairs strongly recommends health insurance, and some grants carry Condition 8501.
  • Translations: every non-English document needs an English translation with the translator's details.

Mistakes that cost Indian applicants money

  • Choosing the in-Australia Tourist stream (AUD 630) when you are applying from India (AUD 250).
  • Assuming one Visitor application covers your children. It does not.
  • Lodging a Student visa from inside Australia after 2 October 2026; most applications must now be lodged outside Australia.
  • Buying non-refundable flights before the grant. A verifiable flight reservation is enough to show your travel plan.
  • Paying on an old fee screenshot. Recheck the pricing table on the day you pay.

Yatra For Fun's India office in Gurugram prepares flight reservations, hotel bookings, travel itineraries and cover letters for visa files. Packages start at INR 1,000 for a flight reservation and go up to INR 3,000 for a reservation, hotel booking, itinerary and cover letter together. Frequently asked questions

Does Home Affairs publish Australian visa fees in Indian rupees?

No. The Department of Home Affairs charges in AUD only and publishes no INR amount. You pay online in ImmiAccount, so the rupee cost depends on the exchange rate your card or bank applies on the day.

How long does an Australian Visitor visa take for Indians?

Home Affairs' global guide shows 50% of Tourist stream applications decided in 21 days and 90% in 33 days. For Indian citizens, tourist visitor visas granted from October to December 2025 had a median of 14 days, with 75% within 23 days.

Is the Business Visitor visa cheaper than the tourist visa?

No. The Business Visitor stream of the subclass 600 visa costs the same AUD 250 as the Tourist stream applied for outside Australia. Home Affairs' global guide shows 50% decided in 7 days and 90% in 19 days.

Can a child under 18 be added to my Australian visitor visa to save money?

No. Home Affairs says family members cannot be included in a Visitor visa, so each child applies and pays separately. Children also need a birth certificate showing both parents and, if one parent is not travelling, Form 1229 consent or a statutory declaration.
