Day-by-day itinerary

  1. 1

    Day 1 — Home - Negombo

    We'll pick you up from Colombo airport and take you to our beach front hotel in Negombo. You'll then have plenty of time to chill out and meet everyone in your group.

    Day 2 — Tuk Tuk Tour & Glamping

    Discover the beachside town of Negombo by tuk tuk and visit the local markets, before heading north to the beautiful and sacred town of Sigiriya.

    Day 3 — Sigiriya & Local Village

    An amazing and diverse day starting with experiencing the stunning views of the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress, as we climb the towering rock adjacent, with 360 degrees views from the top, followed by an authentic local village experience. We'll hop on some unique, local transport and enjoy a cooking demonstration by the local village women and live and eat like the locals!
    Small Change: Immerse yourself in Sigiriya's village life with a traditional farm ride, a peaceful lake crossing, and a cooking demo featuring a locally prepared meal.

    Day 4 — Spice Garden & Temple of the Tooth

    Today we'll head south via a spice garden before arriving in the cultural centre of Sri Lanka - Kandy. We'll visit the amazing Temple of the Tooth, before heading out for dinner and a few drinks.

    Day 5 — Tea Picking & A Scenic Train Ride to Ella

    We'll continue south through stunning rolling green tea plantations, stopping to learn how to pick and make tea; Sri Lanka's most famous export. Before boarding the 'world's most scenic train' to the town of Ella. Once we arrive we'll head into town for dinner and a night out!

    Due to ongoing railway repairs in Sri Lanka, the train journey has been shortened to the most scenic final 2 hours. Train tickets are subject to availability shortly before departure; if tickets cannot be secured, an alternative highlight experience (whale watching in Mirissa) will be arranged.

    Day 6 — Little Adam’s Peak

    A later start this morning as we head off to hike the stunning Little Adam's Peak and enjoy the spectacular views. This afternoon is yours to relax and explore the beautiful little town of Ella, do some shopping or unwind with a traditional massage.

    Day 7 — Ella - Udawalawe

    This morning we'll visit the famous Nine Arches Bridge before heading south to the amazing Udawalawe National Park.

    Day 8 — Udawalawe - Talalla

    A truly unforgettable day as we wake for sunrise and travel by jeep into the stunning Udawalawe National Park; one of the world's best places to spot herds of wild free roaming elephants, crocodiles and amazing bird life. We'll then head to the beachside oasis of Hiriketiya for a chilled afternoon in paradise. Later we'll arrive ar our beach front eco retreat in gorgeous Tallala, where we'll finish the day watching the sunset.

    Day 9 — Tallala

    The aim of today is to do as little or as much as you want. Take a deep breath and feel the peace and calm wash over you at this beautiful retreat.  Participate in our included Yoga session, or read a book by the pool, book an ayurdevic massage, or just snooze under a palm tree whilst soaking in one of the best kept secret beaches of the south.
    Small Change: During our stay in Talla, our groups engage in regular beach clean ups to protect the environment and keep the coastlines free of debris and trash.

    Day 10 — Tallala - Mirissa

    This morning we'll continue along the coast and stop for a private surf lesson on the super friendly and relaxed Welligama Beach, before checking into our beachfront accom in Mirissa. We'll then visit Coconut Tree Hill for its stunning view, before later heading for a night out in the town.

  11. 11

    Day 11 — Mirissa

    Today we'll have the truly special experience of visiting a Buddhist Monastery where we'll spend time with the local monk students and learn about their way of life. Later tonight we'll head out for our farewell meal on the beach.
    Small Change: Explore the spiritual life of a local monastery, where you'll gain insights into Buddhism and join in an English lesson with young monks, creating a meaningful cultural exchange.

  12. 12

    Day 12 — Mirissa - Home

    Your epic adventure comes to an end today. Your group leader will help organise your onward travel. For those flying out today, we'll have a bus to take you to Negombo.

Special notes
  • We always recommend travelling with a backpack and packing light! 10-20kgs of stuff should be plenty. We will be using mainly trains for transport so dragging around a huge suitcase is not much fun. Depending on your onward travel plans there is luggage storage at the airports or at some accommodations if needed.
  • Please bring all valuable items with you at all times. Do not leave valuable items on the bus or at the hotel, attraction, or restaurant. Tours4Fun, local operators, drivers, and tour guides are not responsible for any loss or theft at any location.
  • Pidurangala Hike - Can be tricky at the top if you have problems with back/legs.
