Day 1 — Phnom Penh Capital Arrival & Sightseeing

Upon arrival at Phnom Penh Airport by morning flight, you will be welcomed by our friendly tour guide, who will then accompany you to the hotel.
The capital city of Phnom Penh was once considered the loveliest city of Indochina. Despite its recent turbulent history, it still maintains considerable charm. A city tour acquaints us with some of the major sights of Phnom Penh. This morning, start by visiting Wat Phnom (rebuilt in 1434, 1806, 1894, and 1926); a small hill crowned by an active Wat (Pagoda) marks the legendary founding place of Phnom Penh.
In the afternoon, visit the National Museum; it was built in 1917 and designed in the Khmer style by famed French architect Georges Groslier & the Ecole Des Arts. The museum has a fine collection of Khmer sculptures dating from the pre-Angkor period (4th century) to the post-Angkor period (14th century).
Then visit the Royal Palace, built by King Norodom in 1866 on the site of the old town, and the Silver Pagoda. Located within the grounds of the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda is so named because of its floor, which is made up of 5,000 silver tiles. When you exit from the Royal Palace, continue your visit to the riverfront; it is the most popular place for tourists. The view of the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers is geographically unique.
    Overnight in Phnom Penh.

    Day 3 — Full-Day Angkor Explorer

The South Gate of Angkor Thom, known as "Big Angkor," is one of the five main gates into the ancient city. It is approached from the outside via a causeway that extends about fifty meters across a moat. Explore the Terrace of the Elephants, which is part of the walled city of Angkor Thom, a ruined temple complex in Cambodia. The terrace was used by Angkor's King Jayavarman VII as a platform from which to view his victorious returning army. This destination is an impressive, two-and-a-half-meter-tall, 300-meter-long terrace wall adorned with carved elephants and garudas that spans the heart of Angkor Thom. It stands in front of Baphuon—a huge temple mountain in the heart of Angkor Thom—the Royal Palace Area, and Phimeanakas, an impressive sandstone pyramid.
Then explore Ta Prohm temple, which is known for the huge trees and the massive roots growing out of its walls. Have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit Angkor Wat temple, which was built in the first half of the 12th century. Angkor Wat is a miniature replica of the universe in stone and represents an earthly model of the cosmic world. It is a richly decorated, very large temple; the total temple area including the moat measures 1.5 kilometers long by 1.3 kilometers wide, or a total of about 2 square kilometers. Angkor Wat is the biggest Hindu temple in Cambodia. The temple is an object of pride for Cambodia, and its depiction appears on the national flag. Then admire a romantic sunset view at Pre Rup temple.
    Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 4 — Tonle Sap and Departure

Today, depart by private car with a guide to visit Kampong Khleang, which is located on the northern lake-edge about 55 km east of Siem Reap. It is more remote and less touristy than Kampong Phluk. During the dry season, visitors are universally awestruck by the forest of stilted houses rising up to 10 meters in the air.
In the wet season, the waters rise to within one or two meters of the buildings. Like Kampong Phluk, Kampong Khleang is a permanent community within the flood plain, with an economy based on fishing and surrounded by flooded forest. It is significantly larger—with nearly 10 times the population of Kampong Phluk—making it the largest community on the lake.
Enjoy free time at your own leisure until your transfer to Siem Reap International Airport two hours before departure.
