Italy Tourist Visa Fees for Indians (2026, in Rupees)

These are the amounts published by VFS Global and the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi, as published on the official sources, checked on 15 October 2026. The rupee figures follow a EUR-INR rate that is adjusted from time to time, so confirm the amount on the VFS page on the day you pay. How much is the Italy tourist visa fee in rupees?

A tourist visa is a short-stay Schengen C visa. The same fee applies to the other C categories, such as business or visiting family and friends. Each family member pays separately, so a couple with one child aged 8 pays two adult fees and one child fee, plus three VFS charges.

What does VFS charge on top of the visa fee?

The VFS service charge is INR 631 per application, inclusive of all taxes. It is compulsory and paid alongside the visa fee. Everything else is optional.

The postal drop box is open only to applicants whose biometrics were given after 2 November 2015; first-time applicants must attend in person for fingerprints.

How do you pay, and is anything refunded after a refusal?

VFS accepts the visa fee by demand draft in favour of "VFS Global Services Private Limited" or in cash at the centre. The fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.

That makes the quality of the file worth checking before you pay. European Commission data shows a refusal rate of 12.7% for short-stay Schengen applications lodged at Italian consulates in India in 2025 (6,810 visas not issued; 53,423 applications lodged). The rate covers all short-stay purposes together and does not predict any single outcome.

Why did the rupee amount change in 2026?

Italy fixes the fee in euro and converts it into rupees at a rate that is adjusted periodically. The VFS Mumbai one-pager states that the current rupee fees (Schengen € 90 = INR 9,630; children 6-12 € 45 = INR 4,820) apply at the Ahmedabad, Cochin and Pune centres from 27 March 2026, and at the Mumbai centre from 30 March 2026. If the rate is revised again, the euro amount stays the same and only the rupee figure moves.

How much money should you show for the trip?

The visa fee is only part of the cost. Italy also expects you to show enough money for the stay. The Italian Interior Ministry directive of 1 March 2000 (Table A, as notified to the European Commission in June 2026) sets these minimum means of support per person:

You must also show accommodation and the money needed for your return. The Embassy's tourist checklist asks for salary slips for the last three months, ITRs with barcode for the last 3 years, Income Tax Challan receipts for the last 3 years and a personal bank statement for the last six months stamped by the bank. A bank guarantee ("fidejussione bancaria") from a sponsor in Italy is accepted as an alternative to your own funds.

Which other costs belong in your budget?

• Travel medical insurance: mandatory, with at least EUR 30,000 of cover across the Schengen area, bought from an insurer on the list approved by the Schengen consular posts in India. The premium is not an official figure, so compare insurers on that list.
• Hotel bookings: confirmed hotel bookings are mandatory for the tourist category.
• Flights: a return flight reservation or ticket is required. Holding a reservation instead of a paid ticket keeps you from losing money if the visa is refused.

Before you pay: quick checks

• Apply through the mission that covers the state where you have lived continuously for the last 6 months: the Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulates General in Mumbai, Kolkata or Bangalore.
• Book under "Tourism - first issuance" or "Tourism - Holding previous Schengen visa". If someone in Italy is inviting you, use Visiting Family and Friends instead.
• Allow 15 working days for a decision, extendable up to 45. You can apply up to six months before travel.
• Sign the VFS processing-time declaration and the declaration on travel health insurance.
