Cyprus Visa from India: Flight Reservation vs Confirmed Ticket

The requirements below are as published on the official sources, checked on 15 October 2026. Since 21 July 2026, Indians can lodge Cyprus visa applications at 19 VFS Global centres across India, or at the High Commission by appointment.

What travel proof does the Cyprus checklist ask for?

The Cyprus visa checklist (April 2026) names two travel items:

• Flight itinerary (2 way): your outbound flight to Cyprus and your return.
• Proof of accommodation: hotel reservations or rental of a holiday home, or proof of sponsorship or private accommodation from a host.

Neither line asks for a paid, ticketed booking. The itinerary sits alongside your cover letter, employer letter, bank statements for the last three months, tax declarations for three years and travel medical insurance, and the officer reads them together.

Should you submit a flight reservation or a confirmed ticket?

For a tourist application, both meet the checklist wording. The difference is what you risk if the visa is delayed or refused.

Embassies generally advise against buying non-refundable tickets before the visa decision. A Cyprus visa normally takes 10-15 working days at the High Commission and may take longer in some cases, so a reservation keeps your options open while you wait.

What should your flight reservation show?

• Every traveller's name exactly as printed in the passport.
• Both legs: arrival in Cyprus and departure from Cyprus, as the checklist asks for a 2-way itinerary.
• Dates that match your application form, cover letter, hotel reservations and leave letter.
• Dates fully covered by your travel medical insurance, which must be valid for the entire stay with at least EUR 30,000 cover.
• A booking reference that the airline can verify. A dummy ticket in the correct sense is a genuine, verifiable reservation, never an edited or forged document.

When would you need an actual ticket?

The VFS one-pager's airport transit list asks for an 'air ticket and visa for onward destination country'. But Indians who stay airside do not need that category: no airport transit visa is required to stay in the international transit zone of a Cypriot airport, because India is on neither the EU common list nor the Cyprus airport-transit-visa list.

Outside transit, a ticket matters only if you have already bought one. If you hold a paid ticket, submit it; just make sure it matches everything else in your file.

Do you need a Cyprus visa at all?

Check this before you book anything. Indians holding a valid double- or multiple-entry Schengen (category C) visa, or a valid D visa or residence permit of an EU country (except the UK and Ireland) or a Schengen country, can enter Cyprus without a Cyprus visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Everyone else applies in advance. There is no electronic application, and Cyprus issues a border visa only exceptionally, in emergencies and with the Migration Director's approval. Applications are accepted within six months and no later than fifteen calendar days before the visit.

What changes if you stay with family or friends in Cyprus?

The flight requirement stays the same: you still submit a two-way itinerary. What changes is the accommodation proof. Instead of hotel reservations, the checklist for visiting family and friends asks for:

• an invitation letter from your host;
• an Assumption of Responsibility form completed by the host and certified by a notary public;
• a bank guarantee from the host, stamped by the Migration Department.

The Migration Department's own page says the host submits the hosting form with an original letter of guarantee (€855 for Asian countries) and a copy of your passport. Because your host commits money on your behalf, make sure the dates in that paperwork match your flight reservation exactly.

Which booking mistakes cause problems?

• One-way itineraries. The checklist asks for both directions.
• Mismatched dates. Flight, hotel, insurance and leave dates must tell the same story.
• Letting reservations lapse. Keep the bookings you submitted in place until the decision arrives.
• Applying too late. A file lodged less than 15 calendar days before travel will not be accepted, and VFS centres outside Delhi submit to the High Commission only on the third working day.
• Forged or altered bookings. They put your whole application at risk. Use only real, verifiable reservations.

For context, European Commission data show 11.8% of Cyprus short-stay visa applications at the High Commission in New Delhi were not issued in 2025 (466 of 3,950, all nationalities and purposes). That figure describes past outcomes, not your file. The visa fee is EUR 90 / INR 9800, and the VFS service fee is INR 334; an older VFS one-pager shows INR 9900 and INR 633, so confirm the amount when you book.
