- Visa fees are payable ONLY by Demand Draft in Indian Rupees (INR) drawn in favour of "Consulate General of Italy", payable at Kolkata, India — a Kolkata-route quirk specific to Italy. A bank counter inside VFS Kathmandu can prepare the DD on the spot for an additional NPR 2,053.

- Long-stay processing: Family Reunion 90 working days · Employment 30 working days · Student 30 working days · Re-Entry typically 15–30 working days.
- Schengen-approved travel medical insurance (minimum EUR 30,000 incl. emergency repatriation) is mandatory for the entire stay. From 12 July 2018, only Schengen-approved Indian insurer policies (or insurance bought in Italy itself) are accepted — see the VFS-published list.
- Photo specifications: 35 × 45 mm, white background, dark clothing, no more than 6 months old, face 70–80% of frame, no glasses (or thin frames + no flash reflection), no head coverings except religious. Digital photos are NOT accepted — printed photo-quality prints only.
- Travel agents handling 15+ applicants must email the VFS Kathmandu group-booking address (one email per group of up to 15) at least one day before submission. Incentive groups need prior approval from the Consulate Kolkata.
- Appointments cannot be transferred to another person or rescheduled to add applicants. Multiple appointment requests will result in NO appointment being granted.
- Passport must be machine-readable, issued within the last 10 years, valid for 3+ months beyond planned return, with at least 2 blank facing pages and NO observations on the bio data fields.
- Italian Honorary Consulate Kathmandu (Lazimpat) handles document-attestation and notarial services only; it does NOT accept or forward visa files.
