## Overview

VFS Global is the official partner of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in India; its Visa Application Centres accept short-stay Schengen visa applications only (not exceeding 90 days in any 180-day period) from legal residents of India. All applicants, including children of all ages, must visit the centre in person, by appointment (VFS also takes walk-ins: each centre page lists walk-in timings on Tuesday and Friday, 08:30-10:30, and the booking page says these slots are limited to the first 10 applicants each day, first come, first served). Applicants complete the online application on the Ministry's finlandvisa.fi portal and print the purpose-specific checklist; applications cannot be submitted earlier than six months before the journey (nine months for seafarers). Appointments are booked on the VFS Finland India website after completing the visa form, one per family or group member, and the VFS service fee is paid online by card to confirm the slot; after the decision, passports are collected at the centre with the original VAC receipt and a copy of government photo ID (or, if permitted, by a representative with a notarised authorisation letter), or returned by courier if that was chosen at submission.

## Visa on arrival, eVisa and visa-free entry

- **Visa on arrival:** Not available: VFS Finland India states that all citizens of India must apply for a visa before entering Finland or other Schengen countries, so there is no visa on arrival.
- **eVisa / online visa:** Not available: Finland does not issue an eVisa to Indians; you fill in the Schengen application online at finlandvisa.fi, but every applicant (including children) must then submit it in person at a VFS centre by appointment, and applications cannot be sent by mail, fax or email. An EU-wide online visa platform with digital visas is due only after a seven-year transition period.
- **Visa-free entry:** Not available: VFS Finland India states that all citizens of India must apply for a visa before entering Finland or other Schengen countries, so a visa (or a Finnish residence permit for long stays) is needed before travel.
