## Overview

The Austrian Embassy New Delhi has outsourced the visa application and return of passports to VFS Global; all applications are assessed by the Embassy only. Book an appointment via VFS for visas up to 6 months and lodge the application at the VFS application centre. Short-stay applications can be submitted no earlier than 6 months and at least 15 days (VFS: 15 working days) before travel. Residence permits (over 6 months), job seeker visas and work-programme visas are applied for in person at the Embassy (contact NEW-DELHI-KA@bmeia.gv.at).

## Documents required

### All applicants

- Application form fully completed in English or German and signed by the applicant (Schengen VAF for C visa; National Visa Category (D) form for long-term)
- Signed Declaration and Undertaking (VFS form)
- Passport: valid at least three months after intended departure from the Schengen area; at least two blank pages; issued within the previous 10 years; no alteration or handwritten amendment on the data page
- One photograph in accordance with ICAO standards
- Cover letter stipulating purpose of travel, duration, names of accompanying persons, transport and accommodation details
- Round-trip flight reservation / travel itinerary and proof of accommodation
- Travel medical insurance (minimum EUR 30,000; approved Indian insurer list applies from 01 Jan 2026)
- Proof of occupation - Employed: salary certificate of last 3 months, employment contract plus company NOC to leave, with official email of applicant/HR; Self-employed: GST certificate/Udhyog Aadhar Memorandum/Import Export Certificate/Certificate of Incorporation etc.; Retired: pension statements for last 3 months; Student: proof of enrollment
- Original bank statements of the last three (3) months, stamped and signed by the bank (mandatory per VFS); ITR (with barcode) for last 2 years
- Minors: original notarized NOC from the other parent (if accompanied by one parent) or both parents/legal guardians (if travelling alone), plus copies of parents' passports or ID
- Copy of present passport (data pages, last page, pages with previous visas/travel) and copies of previous Schengen visas
- Contact details: operational email address, mobile number and business card
- Biometrics (ten fingerprints and photograph) collected in person unless collected within the last 59 months; children under 12 exempt from fingerprints

### Tourist Visa

- Proof of accommodation: hotel reservation / letter of tour organizer / other documentation of travel plans in Austria/EU
- Student applicants: proof of enrollment/registration

### Business Visa

- Invitation letter from the Austrian company OR Electronic letter of guarantee (EVE) obtained by the Austrian business from the competent authority in Austria
- If purpose is other than business meetings (training, voluntary work, project work): permission by the Austrian Labour Market Authority (AMS) obtained by the inviting Austrian company

### Visitor Visa

- Invitation from the family member/friend with address, contact details and intended period of stay
- Evidence of legal residence of family/friends visited (passport/national ID or residence permit)
- If applicable: Electronic letter of guarantee of sponsor (EVE)

### Work Visa

- Permission by the Austrian Labour Market Authority (AMS) (Einzelsicherungsbescheinigung, Entsendebewilligung, Anzeigebestaetigung etc.) obtained by the Austrian employer
- Letter of support from the Austrian employer and/or copy of work contract

### Student / Research / Internship Visa

- Proof of accommodation in Austria or acceptance at dormitory
- Confirmation of present student status (letter from institution, student card, certificates)
- For internship: AMS permission obtained by the Austrian employer
- Certificate of admission/registration at an educational institute, or cover letter from host company
- Evidence of payment of tuition fee or scholarship
- If applicable: EVE of sponsor

### Cultural, Sports or Religious Events

- Invitation letter from the Austrian partner, entry tickets or enrolment letter of programs
- If applicable: Electronic letter of guarantee (EVE or GVE)

### Official Visit Visa

- Official Invitation from Austria
- Verbal Note from the authority concerned confirming identity, purpose of journey, period and place of stay
- Travel medical insurance min EUR 30,000 (only Diplomatic and Official passport holders exempt)

### Film Crew Visa

- Letter regarding the film project from Cine Artist Association of India / Film Federation of India
- Production company: cover letter on professional background and filming history; registration with Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association/Film Chamber of Commerce; abstract of screenplay in English with scenes/locations in Austria; bank statements (3 months) and ITR for last 2 years; list of crew members with activity and designation
- Crew members: professional CV with references; ID from Cine Artist Association/Film Federation of India; evidence of professional education/union affiliation; salary certificate (3 months); bank statements (3 months)
- Austrian partner: copy of Business License (Gewerbeberechtigung); invitation letter sent directly to the Embassy; shoot itinerary with filming permits
- If applicable: EVE

### Incentive Groups

- Cover letter explaining association/business relations with sponsor company
- Sponsoring company: proof of company (lawyer/CA letter, Chamber of Commerce, registration); ITR for last 3 years; original bank balance certificate; group flight and hotel reservations; undertaking for financial expenditure and safe return; contact person details; consolidated list of all group applicants sent to the Embassy by email
- Individuals: salary certificate (3 months) / self-employment certificates; personal ITR for last 2 years; bank statements (3 months); originals of previous passports or proof of loss

- **Background:** Plain light-coloured background
- No more than 6 months old
- Face takes up 70-80% of the photograph
