# Kathmandu: Gurkha Knife (Khukuri) Making Workshop

**Category:** Workshop
**Location:** Kathmandu, Nepal
**Duration:** 4 hours
**Price:** from USD 73 per participant

## About

The Khukuri is more than just a knife—it’s a powerful symbol of loyalty, bravery, and the legendary Gurkha warriors of Nepal. Deeply rooted in the traditions of hill tribes, this iconic blade has served as both a tool and a cultural emblem for generations. From shaping timber to preparing food, its slightly curved, razor-sharp tempered steel blade makes it incredibly versatile. The handle, crafted from wood or buffalo horn, offers a firm grip, while the small notch near the base carries both practical purpose and spiritual meaning—representing the Hindu Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Each blade rests in a handcrafted wooden and leather scabbard.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll create your own 6-inch Khukuri, transforming a raw piece of iron into a beautifully shaped blade. Feel the thrill of hammering heated metal, watch the blade take form, and help assemble the handle. For safety, certain steps like fine grinding will be completed by the expert—so you can focus on the experience while staying safe. By the end, you won’t just understand the craft—you’ll take home your very own handmade Khukuri as a meaningful souvenir.
