## TL;DR

A Czech Schengen visa depends on showing the Schengen entry conditions: a valid passport, a justified purpose, sufficient means and no security concern. European Commission data shows 20.1% of applications lodged at Czech consulates in India were refused in 2025; most file gaps map to items on the Embassy's own checklist.

## Key takeaways

- Refusal rate for Schengen applications lodged at Czech consulates in India: 20.1% in 2025 and 21.5% in 2024 (European Commission).
- All short-stay applications are decided by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi; VFS only collects them.
- Most fixable gaps sit on the checklist: passport validity, the signed cover letter, stamped bank statements, lodging for every Schengen state and EUR 30,000 insurance.
- Indians transiting a Czech airport need an airport transit visa unless they hold a Schengen visa or another listed visa or permit.
- A review of the reasons for a refusal costs 80 EURO / 8 700 INR; a new application pays the full fee again.

### How often are Czech visas refused for Indian applicants?
YearRefusal rateVisas not issuedApplications lodged202520.1%5,50127,388202421.5%4,28019,947These are the European Commission's refusal rates for short-stay Schengen visa applications lodged at Czech consulates in India. The rate is calculated by the Commission and is not simply the second column divided by the third. It describes past decisions across all applicants; it is not a prediction for your file. What it does show is that applications lodged rose sharply, from 19,947 to 27,388, while the refusal rate stayed close to 20%.

### What does the Embassy check before issuing a visa?
All short-stay applications from India are assessed and decided by the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi. VFS Global only receives the file and forwards it. The decision turns on the Schengen entry conditions, which the EU's rules for Indian applicants list as:

- a valid travel document;
- a justified purpose of the journey and sufficient means;
- no entry ban in the Schengen Information System (SIS);
- no threat to public policy or security.
You cannot change the last two, but the first three are shown on paper, and that is where a file can be fixed.

### The 2026 fix list: gaps to close before you apply

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs says Indians need an airport transit visa to pass through the international area of a Czech airport, unless they hold a Schengen visa, a long-term visa or residence permit, a residence permit of Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino or the US, or a visa of an EEA state, Canada, Japan or the US.

### Already refused: review the reasons or apply again?
You have two options, and they cost different amounts.

- Request a review of the reasons given for the short-stay refusal. The Embassy's fee table lists 80 EURO / 8 700 INR for this. The pages in our record do not set out the deadline, so ask the Embassy's Schengen desk at newdelhi.shortterm@mzv.gov.cz as soon as you receive the decision.
- Submit a new application that answers the stated reasons with new or better documents. That means paying the visa fee of 90 EURO / 9 800 INR again, plus the VFS service charge of INR 2180, which is non-refundable.
If the reason was a document gap from the table above, a new and complete file answers it directly. If you believe the decision misread documents you did submit, the review route exists for that.

### When should you apply so the file is not rushed?
- VFS releases new slots every second Monday of a month, for appointments in the following month.
- Apply six months at the earliest and 15 days at the latest before the trip; the Embassy strongly recommends at least 3 weeks.
- Processing is normally up to 15 calendar days after the file reaches the Embassy, not from your VFS visit, and can be extended to 45 calendar days.
- Files from VFS centres other than Delhi are forwarded to the Embassy within 2 working days.
- The visa infoline, +91 11 2415 5265, answers on working days from 14:00 to 15:00.
