## TL;DR

For a Thai Non-immigrant B (Employment) visa, the employer provides an original WP.3 (Thor Tor 3) from the Department of Employment or a BOI approval letter, an invitation letter, a signed contract and company tax and registration papers. You apply on thaievisa.go.th from India; the single-entry visa costs INR 7,000 and takes about 14 working days after payment.

## Key takeaways

- The Embassy's B (Employment) checklist asks for the original WP.3 (Thor Tor 3) from the Department of Employment, or a BOI visa approval letter for BOI-promoted firms.
- The employer also supplies an invitation letter, a contract stating position, salary and duration, and company licence, registration and tax papers.
- Single-entry B or IB work visa: INR 7,000 (3 months validity, 90 days stay) at the Embassy and all Consulates-General from 27 April 2026.
- All Thai visas are applied for at thaievisa.go.th; processing is about 14 working days from receipt of the fee payment.
- The 30-day visa exemption covers tourism and short-term business, not employment.

**According to the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, a Thai employer must give an Indian hire an original WP.3 (Thor Tor 3) from Thailand's Department of Employment, or a BOI visa approval letter, plus an invitation letter, a signed employment contract and company papers. You then apply online for a Non-immigrant B (Employment) or IB visa costing INR 7,000.**

## Article

The rules below are as published on the official sources, checked on 2026-10-15. The employer document list comes from the Embassy's Non-immigrant B (Employment) checklist dated 25 February 2021, which is still linked from its visa page. Its demand-draft fee and three-working-day processing note predate the current fees and the e-Visa, so ignore those two lines.

### What is WP.3, and why must it be the original?
WP.3, written Thor Tor 3 in Thai, is a document issued by Thailand's Department of Employment to the Thai employer. The Embassy's checklist lists the original WP.3 among the documents the employer provides. If the company is promoted by Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI), a BOI visa approval letter in Thai replaces it.

Two points are often misunderstood:

- The visa is not the work permit. A Thai Digital Arrival Card notice states that foreigners are not allowed to work unless granted a Work Permit.
- The Embassy pages do not describe how the employer obtains WP.3 or how long the Department of Employment takes. Ask your employer for the WP.3 issue date before you plan your move.

### Which documents must the Thai employer send you?

### What do you add from your side in India?
- Passport valid for at least 6 months with two blank pages
- Signed application form and two colour photos
- Letter of recommendation from your previous employer, plus proof of work experience and education
- If you worked in Thailand before: a copy of the old work permit and your personal income tax statement (Por Ngor Dor 91)
- Confirmed inbound ticket and accommodation evidence in your name, such as a hotel reservation or rental agreement
- For the e-Visa: proof of your current location in India, such as a house agreement, Aadhaar card or monthly electricity bill
The e-Visa photo is uploaded, not pasted. The Embassy's common-mistakes note asks for a colour photo of 630 x 810 pixels on a plain white background, and its FAQ asks for JPG/JPEG files of up to 3 MB taken within the last 6 months. Enter your given name and surname exactly as in the passport and leave the middle-name field blank.

### B (Employment) or IB: which category is yours?
The deciding question is whether your employer is BOI-promoted. If it is, you apply under IB (investment through BOI) with the BOI approval letter. If not, you apply under Non-immigrant B (Employment) with the WP.3.

Fees are the same for both at the Embassy and all Royal Thai Consulates-General in India from 27 April 2026:

- Single entry: INR 7,000 (3 months validity, 90 days stay)
- B multiple entry, 1 year: INR 13,500
- B multiple entry, 3 years: INR 30,000 (90 days per entry)
Senior specialists sometimes look at Thailand's other routes, such as the SMART visa (INR 30,000 per year) or the 10-year Long-Term Resident visa run by the BOI (INR 140,000), each with its own eligibility rules.

### How do you apply, pay and how long does it take?
Since 1 January 2025, every Thai visa for applicants in India is applied for at thaievisa.go.th. You file with the mission covering where you are located: the Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulates-General in Mumbai, Chennai or Kolkata. Thai visas through these missions are issued only to applicants physically present in India throughout the process.

- Payment: the Embassy accepts no cash. You pay by bank transfer or UPI to its DBS Bank account, or by cash deposit at a DBS branch, then email the slip and the Payment Info Summary. Consulates-General publish their own payment options.
- Processing: approximately 14 working days from receipt of the visa fee payment (Embassy e-Visa FAQ, September 2026).
- Refunds: visa fees are non-refundable in all circumstances, including a withdrawn e-Visa application.
- Collection: the granted e-Visa is emailed. Print it for the airline and Thai immigration; phone copies are not accepted.

### Can you start work on the 30-day visa exemption?
No. From 15 September 2026, Indian ordinary passport holders may enter Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism and short-term business engagements. Employment is neither. Arriving visa-free and then starting a job skips the visa and work permit that employment requires.

### Where do employer files usually fall short?
- A business registration certificate older than 6 months
- An invitation letter without the signer's ID or passport copy
- A contract that omits the salary or is signed by only one side
- A scan sent in place of the original WP.3
- Missing Por Ngor Dor 50, Por Por 30 or Por Por 20 statements
