## TL;DR

New Zealand has no separate multiple-entry product: Indians apply online for a Visitor Visa, and INZ issues it either as multiple-entry (up to 6 months in each 12-month period) or single-entry (one stay of up to 9 months). The fee is NZD 441 and 80% of applications are decided within 2 weeks.

## Key takeaways

- Multiple-entry is a form of the standard Visitor Visa, not a separate visa category.
- Multiple-entry: up to 6 months in each 12-month period; single-entry: one stay of up to 9 months.
- Fee for Indians applying from India: NZD 441, including the NZD 100 IVL; not refunded if declined.
- Show at least NZD 1,000 a month (NZD 400 if accommodation is prepaid) plus an onward ticket or the money for one.
- Applications are online through Immigration Online from 1 October 2026; 80% are decided within 2 weeks.

**According to Immigration New Zealand (INZ), Indians apply for one Visitor Visa that allows up to 9 months in an 18-month period. INZ issues either a multiple-entry visa, allowing stays of up to 6 months in each 12-month period, or a single-entry visa for one stay of up to 9 months. The fee is NZD 441.**

## Article

So the 'multiple-entry visa' Indians search for is really an outcome of the ordinary Visitor Visa. INZ decides which version to issue. This guide explains how the two versions differ and what to prepare, as published on the official sources, checked on 15 October 2026. For every New Zealand visa type, see our New Zealand visa guide for Indians.

### Is there a separate multiple-entry visa for Indians?
No. INZ's visit categories for Indian citizens are the Visitor Visa, the Business Visitor Visa, the Group Visitor Visa and the Transit Visa. India is not on New Zealand's visa-waiver list, so every Indian passport holder needs one of these before travelling. A multiple-entry Visitor Visa is one of the two forms in which INZ grants the standard Visitor Visa.

### How do the 6-month and 9-month limits work?
Think of two ceilings. The Visitor Visa as a whole caps your time in New Zealand at 9 months in any 18 months. If INZ grants it as multiple-entry, a second cap applies: no more than 6 months in each 12-month period. A parent visiting a child who has settled in Auckland could, for example, split the time into shorter trips rather than one long stay, as long as both ceilings are respected.

Length of stay also changes the paperwork. Because India is not a low-TB country, a chest X-ray is needed if you will stay more than 6 months. Police certificates are needed if your total time in New Zealand will be 24 months or longer. Medical papers must be less than 3 months old.

### What does the visa cost and how do you pay?
The fee for an Indian citizen applying from India is NZD 441. It includes a non-refundable immigration levy and the NZD 100 International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL). It is not refunded if INZ declines the application. You pay online by Visa, Mastercard or UnionPay; INZ publishes no rupee amount.

VFS Global, INZ's partner in India, charges only if INZ asks for your passport: a handling fee of INR 1,460 (USD 24). Paper applications cost INR 2,085 (USD 34) at VFS. The VFS centres are in New Delhi, Chandigarh and Mumbai.

### Which documents support the application?
INZ wants evidence that you are a genuine visitor who can pay for the stay and leave. The core items are:

- A passport valid at least 3 months beyond the date you plan to leave New Zealand, and 1 acceptable photo.
- Funds of at least NZD 1,000 a month, or NZD 400 a month if accommodation is prepaid, or a sponsor using the Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry (INZ 1025).
- An onward ticket, or funds to buy one on top of your living funds.
- Proof of your plans in New Zealand.
INZ's India checklist (INZ 11223) suggests bank statements or payslips for the previous 3 months, credit card statements, income tax returns for the last two years and proof of ties to India, such as an employer's leave letter, business registration, property or pension papers. It also lists optional items: a cover letter, a day-to-day itinerary, visas from earlier trips and your Aadhaar card. That checklist predates online-only lodging, so ignore its references to the paper form INZ 1017 and two photographs.

### What should you carry on every entry?
A multiple-entry visa does not guarantee entry each time. On every arrival you complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration, which by air can be submitted from 24 hours before the journey begins, and you carry a ticket out of New Zealand (or money to buy one, or your sponsor's agreement) plus proof of money to live on. Border officers can refuse entry if you are not a genuine visitor, do not meet character requirements, your circumstances have changed since the visa was issued, you refuse photo, fingerprint or iris capture, or you cannot show onward travel or the money to leave.

### Is a Business Visitor Visa better for repeat work trips?
For short business visits, such as meetings, exploring opportunities or negotiating contracts, INZ offers a Business Visitor Visa for up to 3 months in 1 year. It costs NZD 341, as business visitors are exempt from the IVL, and INZ's headline timeframe is 80% decided within 4 days. You need a letter from your employer or the New Zealand company confirming the business reasons. Working, training, performing or taking part in events may need a work visa or a general Visitor Visa instead.

### When to apply, and mistakes to avoid
INZ decides 80% of Visitor Visa applications within 2 weeks, but says processing is busiest between September and March, especially before Christmas. Since 1 October 2026, visitor applications must be made online through Immigration Online.

- Do not post your passport to VFS unless INZ's 'Thank You' page or application PDF tells you to.
- Do not upload an edited photo: filters, beautification and AI tools are not allowed.
- Do not plan back-to-back trips that break the 6-in-12 ceiling on a multiple-entry visa.
