### Which documents decide whether the file is even accepted?
The Embassy states that a study application is accepted only if three items are submitted: the attested and apostilled study certificates, the DoV or CIMEA certificate, and the enrolment-fee receipt. Without them, the file is not taken in for assessment.

The DoV rule has one exception. Applications without a DoV or CIMEA are not accepted unless the university explicitly says they are not required. Keep that written statement in your file if it applies.

If you need a DoV, the Embassy's separate DoV checklist asks for:

- The DoV request form and data privacy form, plus a passport copy (first and last page)
- Your final degree or school certificate in original with HRD authentication and Apostille, plus 2 copies; transcripts and marksheets likewise
- Information on your Indian institution's classification and grading system
- The Universitaly pre-enrolment summary and the acceptance letter from the Italian university
DoVs are issued free of charge only for verified study reasons.

### How much money must you show, and who can sponsor you?
You need proof of at least EUR 534.41 a month or EUR 6,947.33 a year for your stay in Italy. The money can come from your own income, a sponsor, an education loan or an Italian government scholarship, with conditions:

- Sponsors may only be your parents, Italian or foreign nationals legally resident in Italy, or recognised institutions.
- An education loan counts only if it is deposited and visible on your bank statements, so a loan that is sanctioned but not yet credited to your account does not meet the condition.
No INR figure is published for the funds rule, so convert at the current rate and keep a margin.

### Which Italian office handles your state?
You must apply where you have lived continuously for the last 6 months, at a VFS centre of the office covering that state.

### Entrance test pending: should you apply for a C or a D visa?
It depends on when the test happens. If your admission depends on an entrance test at the Italian university, apply for the D visa. If you are taking a test before your final certificate is issued, apply for a short-stay C study visa instead.

### What must you do after you land in Italy?
National D visa holders must apply for a residence permit (permesso di soggiorno) at the Questura within 8 working days of arrival. If a visa is refused, the refusal letter states the reasons. You may reapply, or appeal through a lawyer to the T.A.R. of Lazio within 60 days.
