If you have applied for Greece before through VFS Global, the process has moved. This how-to explains which centre to choose, how to book, whether walk-ins work, what you pay and how collection works. Details are as published on the official sources, checked on 2026-10-15. For visa types and the full checklist, see our Greece visa guide for Indians.

### Why does a Greece appointment go through GVCW, not VFS?
VFS Global no longer handles Greek visas in India. The Embassy of Greece in New Delhi links to GVCW's India site (in-gr.gvcworld.eu) from its visa page, and GVCW states it is the exclusive external service provider of the Greek consular authorities in India. GVCW only receives applications; the Embassy's Consular Office in New Delhi assesses every Greek visa lodged in India.

There is no Greek eVisa. You complete the application form online on the GVCW website, print it, and lodge it in person at a centre, where your fingerprints and photo are taken. Postal applications are not accepted.

### Which GVCW centre should you book?
Book the centre for your residence address. GVCW runs 15 centres:

CentreWhat to knowNew Delhi (Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Mezzanine Level, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place)Submission 09:00-16:00, passport collection 15:00-17:00, Monday to Friday; files reach the Embassy in 5 days; the only centre for family-reunification, employment and digital-nomad D visasAhmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Goa, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Puducherry, PuneSchengen applications are sent to New Delhi first; the Embassy gives 6-8 days for delivery from the rest of India, against 5 days from New Delhi; the regional service charge includes two-way courier to New Delhi (amount not published)
### How do you book a GVCW appointment, step by step?
- Fill in the application form on the GVCW website and print it.
- Open the GVCW schedule appointment page and choose the centre for your residence address.
- Pick a date and time. Booking is free. The platform is meant for individual applicants and families, not professional use.
- Print the booking confirmation and bring it to the centre with your documents.
- Cancel any slot you will not use, as GVCW requires, so it can go to someone else.
- Attend in person, give fingerprints and a photo, and pay the fees at the counter.
For national (D-type) visas you must also appear in person for an interview, possibly by video link at the provider's office, and give biometrics.

### Can you walk in without an appointment?
GVCW also accepts walk-in submissions, although it strongly encourages booking. Walk-ins can be suspended: GVCW suspended walk-in applications on 15, 16 and 19 October 2026, with walk-ins resuming on 21 October 2026. Check the GVCW news page before you go without a slot. If you need a specific date, book online; a Saturday "Prime Time" submission is available as a paid extra.

### What do you pay at the centre?

The visa fee changes with the exchange rate and is not refunded if the visa is refused.

### How far ahead should you book?
Peak season runs from April to July, so book well ahead. You can apply no more than 6 months before the trip (9 months for seafarers). The Embassy decides within 15 working days of receiving an admissible application, extendable to 45 calendar days in individual cases, and it is not responsible if you submit less than 15 days plus delivery days before travel. Count backwards: delivery to New Delhi, then the Embassy's 15 working days, then passport return.

European Commission data show that 33.2% of Schengen applications lodged at Greek consulates in India in 2025 were not issued (13,526 of 41,009). That is a record of past outcomes for all applicants, not a prediction; it is a reason to book early and submit a complete file.

### What happens after you submit?
- Tracking: use the application ID on your payment receipt and your passport number on GVCW's tracking page.
- Collection: collect in person with ID and the payment receipt, and open the envelope at the centre. A representative needs your original signed authorisation letter, submitted with the application, and a copy of their ID; for minors, a certified authorisation from both parents and a copy of the unabridged birth certificate.
- If refused: read and sign the refusal letter at collection and hand it back; it goes to the Embassy and you keep a copy. Courier users must send the signed letter to the Embassy themselves.
