## Article

The steps follow the Embassy of Denmark in India and VFS Global, its official partner, as published on the official sources, checked on 2026-10-15. Denmark has no eVisa and no visa on arrival for Indian ordinary passport holders, so every tourist goes through this process.

### Step 1: Where do you fill in the form and pay the visa fee?
Everything starts on the Danish ApplyVisa portal, applyvisa.um.dk, not at VFS. There you:

- Complete the application form for the Tourist / Non Professional Visa.
- Pay the visa fee online: EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children from 6 to below 12. The exchange rate of the date of application applies.
- Print the completed application form and sign it.
- Print and sign the ApplyVisa cover letter, which carries your Cover Letter ID.
- Print the visa fee payment receipt; it is part of your file.

### Step 2: How do you book the VFS appointment?
After you finish the form and pay, allow up to 24 hours for the ApplyVisa data to be validated. The VFS appointment calendar then opens. Book with your ApplyVisa Cover Letter ID, and make one appointment for each family or group member.

VFS Global runs Denmark visa centres in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune. Every application, wherever it is lodged, goes to the Embassy in New Delhi for decision; the Consulate General in Bangalore and the honorary consulates in Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai offer no visa services. Only Red Carpet business applicants can attend without an appointment.

### Step 3: Which documents go into a tourist file?
Arrange the papers in the order of the Embassy's tourist checklist. All documents are submitted in colour on A4 paper.

- Identity: passport valid at least three months beyond your intended stay, issued within the previous 10 years, with at least two blank pages; copies of earlier Schengen visas and stamps; an extra copy of the passport ID page for collection.
- Photo: one colour photograph, 3.5cm x 4.5cm, less than six months old, white background.
- Trip: a cover letter stating purpose, duration, accompanying persons, transport and accommodation; return flight reservations; proof of accommodation for the whole stay; a travel agency certificate if it is an organised trip.
- Money: original bank statement for the last three months, stamped and signed by the bank, showing DKK 350 per day (private home) or DKK 500 per day (hotel); Indian income tax return acknowledgment for the last two assessment years.
- Work: employed applicants add payslips for the last three months, the employment contract and a leave letter; business owners add the company registration certificate with the GST registration number; retired applicants add pension statements for the last three months.
- Insurance: travel medical insurance valid for all Schengen countries, at least 30,000 euros, covering the entire trip.
- Family details: marriage certificate if travelling with your spouse and the status is not in the passport; for minors, the birth certificate, notarised consent of the non-travelling parent(s) and copies of both parents' passports or IDs.

### What will the whole application cost?

### How long will you wait, and when should you apply?
The Embassy normally decides within 15 days from the day it receives the application. That count excludes VFS submission and transport time. It can take up to 30 days if further enquiry is needed and up to 45 days in exceptionally difficult cases. The Embassy may also ask you to attend an interview or provide further documents.

In peak season, March to September, the Embassy recommends submitting to VFS at least 4 weeks before your trip. Because the Embassy also recommends not buying tickets before approval, hold flight reservations rather than paid tickets while you wait.

Frequent travellers benefit from the EU's rules for Indian nationals in force since 18 April 2024: if you obtained and lawfully used two Schengen visas within the previous three years, you can be issued a multiple-entry visa valid for two years, normally followed by a five-year visa if your passport has enough validity. Stays remain limited to 90 days in any 180-day period.

### How do you collect the passport, and what if the answer is no?
Passports are collected at the VFS centre with the original receipt (ICR) and a copy of a government photo ID. Someone else can collect only if they are an immediate family member, an authorised company representative, or collecting an official or diplomatic passport. If you chose courier return at submission, the passport is delivered instead.

If the visa is refused, you have 8 weeks from receiving the refusal to appeal. When the Embassy refused, the appeal goes to the Danish Immigration Service; the refusal letter states the authority and any time limit. If the refusal was due to insufficient information, you can instead ask the Embassy to reopen the case.
