## TL;DR

Work stays over 90 days use a long-term route such as the employment card, Blue card or intra-company transfer, submitted personally at the Czech Embassy in New Delhi by appointment, with a fee of 5000 CZK / 22300 INR. Employment of up to 90 days is listed as a short-term Schengen purpose and goes through VFS.

## Key takeaways

- Stays over 90 days: long-term applications are submitted personally at the Czech Embassy in New Delhi after booking through its appointment system; employee cards are accepted only within the government's Economic Migration Programs.
- Employment card, Blue card and intra-company transfer applications cost 5000 CZK / 22300 INR.
- Employment or seasonal employment of up to 90 days is a listed short-term (Schengen) purpose, handled at 15 VFS centres.
- Short-term fee is 90 EURO / 9 800 INR plus a non-refundable VFS charge of INR 2180/-.
- INR equivalents are updated every month according to the exchange rate.

**To work in the Czech Republic for more than 90 days, apply for a long-term route (employment card, Blue card or intra-company transfer) in person at the Czech Embassy in New Delhi, by appointment, not at VFS. The fee is 5000 CZK / 22300 INR. Employment of up to 90 days uses the short-term Schengen visa through VFS.**

## Article

This guide draws on the Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi and VFS Global India. Fees and processing times are as published on the official sources, checked on 10 October 2026. If you are planning a holiday or a business meeting instead, our Czech Republic visa guide for Indian applicants covers those categories.

### Two routes, split at the 90-day mark
Before you collect a single document, work out how long the job lasts. The Czech system divides applications at 90 days, and the route, the office you deal with and the fee all change on either side of that line.

- Up to 90 days: the Embassy lists "Employment or seasonal employment" and "Training" among the purposes of a short-term (Schengen) visa. You apply at a VFS Global centre in India, and the Consular Section in New Delhi assesses and decides the file.
- More than 90 days: long-term visa applications must be submitted personally at the Embassy by appointment. VFS does not take them. The Embassy's fee schedule names three work-related applications: the employment card, the Blue card and the intra-company transfer.
A one-year contract does not fit a short-term visa, however quick the VFS process looks. Agree the start date and contract length with your Czech employer first, then pick the route.

### Work permit fees in CZK and INR
The Embassy publishes long-term fees in Czech koruna with a rupee equivalent beside them. The figures below are copied from its consular fee page and the VFS fee list:

- The Embassy updates its fees every month according to the current exchange rate, so the rupee figure on the day you pay may differ from the one above.
- Short-term applicants also pay a non-refundable VFS service charge of INR 2180/- when booking the appointment, inclusive of SGST and CGST at 9% each.
- Family members of EU or Czech nationals are exempt from the visa fee if they provide the relevant documents at submission; the VFS charge still applies to them.

### Lodging an employment card or Blue card application from India
Because long-term files never pass through VFS, you deal with the Consular Section directly. The sequence looks like this:

- Get an appointment the right way. Employee card applications are accepted only within one of the government's Economic Migration Programs: individual applicants cannot request an appointment, and the Embassy assigns dates to applicants included in a program. For an EU Blue Card or intra-company transfer card, send one booking e-mail per applicant to newdelhi.longterm@mzv.gov.cz with a scan of your passport data page and proof of purpose (for a Blue Card, the vacancy number).
- Get the checklist for your permit. Use the long-stay pages on the Embassy website. The pages reviewed for this guide set out the short-term checklist in detail; long-term document lists were not part of that review, so treat the Embassy's own long-stay page as the only reliable list.
- Attend in person. The application is submitted personally at the Embassy in New Delhi. If you live in Chennai, Kolkata or Kochi, build the trip to Delhi into your timeline and your leave.
- Split the paperwork with your employer. Once you have the Embassy's list, agree with your Czech employer who supplies which item, well before the appointment date.
Family members of EU or Czech citizens may also apply directly at the Embassy by appointment.

### Seasonal and short assignments through VFS
For seasonal work, training or a short project of up to 90 days, the short-term process applies. Seasonal work of more than 90 days needs a long-term visa for seasonal employment, lodged at the Embassy after e-mail registration on announced dates, with an employment permission from the Czech Labour Office. VFS runs 15 Czech visa centres in India: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai and Pune.

- Slots: new appointments are released every second Monday of a month for the following month. Note that date in your calendar.
- Window: apply no earlier than six months and no later than 15 days before the trip. The Embassy strongly recommends at least 3 weeks.
- Decision time: normally up to 15 calendar days after the file reaches the Embassy, which can be extended to 45 calendar days in individual cases. Files lodged outside Delhi are forwarded to the Embassy within 2 working days of submission.
The clock starts when the file reaches New Delhi, not when you hand it over at VFS. If your employer has a fixed start date, plan backwards from the 45-day outer limit rather than the 15-day norm.

### Paperwork you can prepare in India now
For a short-term work trip, the Embassy's Schengen checklist applies. Some of it takes time to gather, so start early:

- A passport issued within the last 10 years, valid three months beyond your return, with at least two empty pages, plus copies of the biodata page, the last page and any old Schengen stamps.
- Indian income tax return acknowledgments for the last two assessment years.
- An original bank statement for the last three months, stamped and signed by the bank.
- A signed cover letter stating purpose, duration, transport and accommodation, and proof of where you will stay.
- Travel medical insurance valid for all Schengen countries, minimum 30,000 EUR, covering the whole trip. VFS publishes a list of approved insurers.
- Two recent colour photos with a white background, face covering at least 80% of the frame.
This is the general short-term list. Confirm any employment-specific supporting documents on the VFS Czech checklist before you book.

### Mistakes that hold up Czech work applications
- Booking a VFS slot for a long stay. VFS handles short-term visas; anything over 90 days goes to the Embassy.
- Budgeting from an old rupee figure. INR amounts change monthly with the exchange rate.
- Leaving it to the last fortnight. Short-term files must be in at least 15 days before travel, and slots open only on the second Monday.
- Ignoring a refusal letter. If a short-term visa is refused, read the reasons. A request for review of those reasons costs 80 EURO / 8 700 INR.
If your short-term file needs a flight reservation, hotel booking, itinerary or cover letter, Yatra For Fun's India office in Gurugram prepares these for visa applicants, with packages from INR 1,000 (flight reservation) to INR 3,000 (reservation, hotel, itinerary and cover letter).
