### Why is the 482 the expensive one for families?
On the 482, an adult family member pays the same charge as the main applicant: AUD 4,015 each. A child under 18 adds AUD 1,005. MATES also charges adults the same as the main applicant, but at AUD 470. On the 485, by contrast, a partner pays AUD 2,875, which is half the main applicant's charge.

The 482 is an employer-sponsored temporary visa for up to 4 years. Your employer must be (or have applied to be) a Standard Business Sponsor and must lodge a nomination before you apply. The employer separately pays a nomination fee and the Skilling Australians Fund levy. Home Affairs did not return those amounts in the price data checked, so ask your employer for the figures in writing rather than relying on a third-party quote.

Home Affairs reports 6,220 primary 482 visas granted to Indian citizens between 1 July and 31 December 2025. That was 18.1% of all primary grants in the period, making Indians the largest citizenship group.

### What does the 485 fee buy you?
The AUD 5,750 Temporary Graduate visa is a post-study work visa that you apply for from inside Australia after completing an eligible Australian degree. It is exempt from the subsequent temporary application charge.

Under the Australia-India ECTA, Indian nationals can stay 2 years after a Bachelor degree, 3 years after a Bachelor with first-class honours in STEM including ICT, 3 years after a Masters and 4 years after a PhD. You must be 35 or under when you apply, or under 50 if you use a Masters by research or Doctoral degree. Because the stay length depends on your qualification, the fee per year of work rights differs a lot between a Bachelor and a PhD graduate.

### What do the permanent residence visas cost?
Three skilled PR routes cost almost exactly the same:

- Skilled Independent (189): AUD 6,135. No sponsor; you need an invitation through SkillSelect and at least 65 points.
- Skilled Nominated (190): AUD 6,140. A state or territory government agency nominates you.
- Employer Nomination Scheme (186) Direct Entry: AUD 6,140. An Australian employer nominates you, and the job must pay at least the Core Skills Income Threshold.
The Skilled Work Regional (491) visa, also AUD 6,140, is provisional for 5 years and leads to permanent residence through subclass 191 after 3 years. After permanent residence, Australian citizenship by conferral costs AUD 285 for applicants aged 18 to 59 who sit the test.

### Which costs are not part of the visa fee?
The visa application charge is only one line in your budget. Home Affairs lists other possible costs without giving amounts:

- Health checks and police certificates, if requested.
- Skills assessment fees, where your occupation needs one (for example through Trades Recognition Australia or VETASSESS).
- English test fees, unless you are exempt.
- Health insurance: the 482 needs evidence of adequate health insurance for you and your family, and the 485 needs adequate health insurance when you apply.
- Employer-side charges for the 482: the nomination fee and the Skilling Australians Fund levy.
None of these is set by the visa fee table, so treat any single 'all-in' figure you see online with caution.

### Why is there no official INR price?
Home Affairs charges and publishes visa fees in AUD only and publishes no INR amounts. You pay online in ImmiAccount, and your bank or card provider converts the amount on the day. Budget a margin for exchange movement, especially for a family 482 application.

Fees also change on 1 July. The current charges apply from 1 July 2026 under the Home Affairs Legislation Amendment (2026 Measures No. 1) Regulations. On the same date, the 482 salary floors were indexed: AUD 79,423 for the Core Skills stream and AUD 146,576 for the Specialist Skills stream, for nominations lodged 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.

### Before you pay: a short checklist
- Confirm the exact subclass and stream; the 482 Core and Specialist streams share one fee but have different salary floors.
- Count each family member separately and check the age band (18 or over, or under 18).
- For the 482, wait until your employer's nomination is lodged and you have the Transaction Reference Number.
- Check the Home Affairs pricing table on the day you lodge, since charges are indexed each July.
- Keep proof of payment with your ImmiAccount records.
Processing times differ widely: the 485 is decided for 50% of applicants in 5 days and 90% in 55 days, while the 186 Direct Entry stream takes 21 months for 50% and 25 months for 90% (global guide, all nationalities).
